Bay St. Louis / Waveland School Sued by Insurance
Issues with insurance companies have been a problem for many residents and business owners on the Mississippi Gulf Coast, but most of those problems are from homeowners and business owners that have to go after their insurance carriers, generally in a debate of what was wind and what was water.
In a new twist, the Bay/Waveland School District was recently served with papers that they were being sued by their insurance carrier. The primary policy was/is worth $5 million, and the excess coverage, $25 million. The excess carrier policy, provided through Lloyd’s of London, is seeking a court decision on what is, or is not, owed under the policy because they believe that the school is not owed any additional funds from the storm.
The story, not new to residents of the Mississippi Coast, seems to be a wind versus water issue. While Bay St. Louis/Waveland children are still working out of mobile classrooms, the school and the insurance carrier will try to figure out what is covered under the policy and, hopefully, these children can get back into something that resembles a classroom.
